Dear Class 3 Parents,
What fantastic weather we had for our Easter Holidays! I hope you all had a lovely break and that the children are refreshed and ready for the busy term ahead.
As you are aware, there are a few changes and new faces this term. I will be teaching in Class 3 every day, with Mr George teaching the children Games and PSHE on Wednesday afternoons. We also have a PGCE Student, Miss Scott-Hake, who will be working with us throughout the term.
As always, work is very much theme based, with all the subjects being linked to one another wherever possible.
Literacy
The range of texts we will study includes stories with flashbacks, persuasive and argument texts, and we will also be reading, performing and writing our own plays.
Children should try to read every night and need to fill out their Reading Log each time they read - I will collect these on Wednesdays. I have asked that they read to an adult, or share a book, at least once a week and even the more able readers will benefit from this. Our Friday morning reading sessions continue, where children from all the classes pair up to share a book or two. Any adults who have half an hour free on a Friday are more than welcome to come and join us.
Numeracy
Numeracy will follow the new framework and covers place value, weights and measures, and using the four operations to solve money and word problems. We will also continue working really hard on learning our times tables, using ‘Mad Minutes' to assess our progress.
Science
Hopefully the lovely weather will continue, as our Science topics will include an outdoor element. We will be investigating habitats and lifecycles and the children will design, carry out and record their experiments and investigations.
History/Geography
Our local area is the focus of both our History and Geography studies this term. We will look at how and where we spend our time and what it was like to live in and around Brampford Speke in the past. If anybody has any historical information about Brampford, or would like to talk to the children about how the village has changed through the years it would be greatly appreciated!
Design Technology
In D&T the children will be looking at shelters and designing and building their own - hopefully they can make sun shelters, rather than rain shelters!
Art
‘A sense of place' is the title of our art work this term. We will explore the rural landscape as a starting point for two-dimensional work and record their observations using drawing and photography. They will then produce their own landscape picture using a variety of mediums.
RE
We will follow the Devon Agreed Syllabus for Re. This term the children will be working on projects about other religions in the unit ‘It matters to me, it matters to you'.
P.E.
I will be teaching Gym, where we will be building on our autumn term work to produce sequences with improved content and body control.
Mr George will be teaching Games outside (weather permitting!) perfecting their tennis, athletic and striking / fielding skills.
Hopefully this gives you a feel for the term ahead. Please pop in and see me if you have any questions.
