Dear Class 2 Parents,
I hope you all had a lovely Easter break in the sunshine, and that the children are full of energy for the busy term ahead.
As you are aware, there are a few changes to the class structure this term. I will be teaching in Class 2 every morning, with Mr George teaching on a Monday, Tuesday and Friday afternoons. Mrs Evans will take the class on a Wednesday afternoon and Miss Montfoort on a Thursday as before.
English
First of all we will be looking at language play in poetry, including tongue twisters and acrostics. We will then move on to researching the authors Anne Fine and Michael Morpurgo, followed by a unit on dialogue and plays. As always, the development of language skills in phonics, spelling, sentence structure, grammar, punctuation and handwriting will be ongoing.
Reading
In reading children should choose new books independently and try to read every evening, filling out their Reading Record each time they read. Our Friday morning reading sessions continue, where children from all the classes pair up to share a book or two. Any adults who have half an hour free on a Friday are more than welcome to join us.
Please make sure that book bags are brought to school every day, and taken home at the end of the day. This will ensure that children always have a current reading book with them, and that any letters given out will reach their intended recipient!
Maths
This year we have been following the Abacus Evolve maths scheme of work. We will continue to work on all the core objectives, providing the children with a wide range of experience in applying their mathematics and developing their methods of calculation. This will involve grouping the children according to their needs so that they can receive appropriate teaching and support.
Science
We will be studying rocks and soils, followed by living things in their environment, including habitats and food chains.
Geography
We will be describing a range of physical and human features of our locality. We will be using appropriate geographical terms, observing locations and patterns in the area, identify how people affect the environment and recognise ways people try to manage it for the better.
Design Technology
This term we will be focusing on the design of bridges, especially the foot bridge crossing the river Exe. We will be testing materials, suggesting ways of joining them before designing and making our own model bridge.
Art
This term we will be linking in with our Geography work to see how nature has inspired artists and we will be making collages and painting about our local environment.
RE
We will follow the Devon Agreed Syllabus for Re. This term the children will be working on projects about sacred texts and why they are special to various religions.
P.E.
Please make sure all children have a P.E. kit in school every Wednesday and Friday.
Hopefully this gives you a feel for the term ahead. Please pop in and see me if you have any questions.
